Do you know how Early Learning music classes at Galloway have incorporated the 4 ”D’s?”
All of our music classes are offering some sort of chance to DAREthe students to learn new concepts, step out of a comfort zone and …
Review concepts learned in past classes. Music is a sequential study.
In past years, your child developed skills on which he or she will continue to build as musicians. Our youngest students are at an exciting beginning point!
New concepts are presented each year that build on a foundation of pitch and rhythm.
Galloway children begin working on pitch recognition and pitch matching through singing simple songs. We sing a lot! The best reinforcement for this conceptual learning at early ages is to sing anywhere and everywhere - in the car, bathtub, yard, etc. Children this age love to make up their own songs as they play, so sing along! Not only is singing fun, it helps develop language skills.
The study of music is very DELIBERATE. It requires focus to perform either as a soloist or in a group. Our children all experience singing and playing instruments with others, sharing musical interpretations, and enjoying music with friends. Learning rhythmic reading is a skill we begin at the pre-school. They begin with simple icons and by 4th grade our students read music from recorder books and perform for an audience.
Children in Early Learning DISCOVER how to make and share music with their friends when they engage in activities such as making their own instruments. We also discover many other things in class that are cross-curricular. For example, we discovered that a dreydl spun the longest on a flat surface while singing during the holidays! The 4-year old class recently discovered that not only was Thumbelina a Fairy Tale but also that there is a musical version. They also found out that their thumbs could be singers and dancers as well!
This winter, each of the classes from grades 1-4 will Discover how the music of famous composers endured the test of time. They will play some of this music on instruments and experience some of the most remembered musicians in history.
Our classroom is DYNAMIC and multisensory. Children in music classes experience singing, playing instruments, moving to music, interpreting music, and creating music; often simultaneously!
